For the past two summers our church has partnered (through the NC Baptist ) with The Sanctuary in Pickering, Ontario (www.thesanctuarypickering.ca) to minister to children attending Ignition Sports Camp (http://www.ignitioncamps.ca/about/default.html). This camp was coordinated several years ago by Dan Collison, North American Mission Board missionary over church planting in Eastern Canada. The team teaches the secular character lesson each morning and the follow-up Christian based lesson in the afternoons. The plan of salvation through belief in Christ is shared as well. At the end of camp we provide to the campers treat bags with not only things kids love but also evangelistic materials, and Bibles are provided to all those that are saved as well as anyone interested.
The trips have been very fruitful, seeing many children accept Christ. Other community outreach activities for The Sanctuary are planned as well. We have completed various painting projects at low-income non-profit housing complexes as well as held bike repair clinics and bead craft camps in neighboring housing areas. What opportunities we have had to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our annual trip occurs usually in July.
Below is a message from Dan Collison and a testimonial concerning Ignition camp this summer:
The following is a great reminder of why we run Ignition Sports Camps all summer and the tangible impact it has in the lives of real families. Sometimes I get a bit down about such a large work being held together by so few and about how so many around us enjoy summer holidays while we run the camps – stories like this keep my compass properly calibrated.
